Yorkshire into National Semi-Finals!
Congratulations to the Yorkshire Ladies team who battled their way into the semi-finals of the Atherley Trophy on Saturday. Six rinks of ladies played Nottinghamshire at Gedling IBC and won by almost 20 shots. Once again Hornsea’s hot ladies were on form winning their rink in style, this time with a shot difference of 25 (38-13). Many of the heads on their rink were tighter than some of those being at Potters this week!
Rink 2 also saw an exciting game with York IBC’s Helen Wood turning a 3-16 losing run into a 2 point win within eight ends. Shortening the jack length totally turned the game around for the Yorkshire girls.
Yorkshire’s semi final will be against Cambridgeshire on 2nd March.
Earlier Rounds
The weekend of the 15th & 16th of December was a busy weekend for four ladies in our club. Not only did they play in the Top Club at Louth on the Sunday (see seperate report in the National Competitions’ Update) but they also represented their County as part of the Atherley Trophy Team.
Lydia Cutmore, Holly Baxter, Katy Baxter and Dani Martinson played together as one rink at Boston IBC with twenty others from around the County making up the six rink team. The competition is decided by the aggregate score across all six rinks.
As the 2018 Atherley Trophy defending champions, Lincolnshire fielded a strong side and the competition was tight throughout the game. The Hornsea ladies played a quick game and were first to finish with a winning score of 30 – 7. The match was tight throughout the 21 ends but in the end Yorkshire triumphed with an aggregate score of 111 – 102, which just goes to show what a massive impact the Hornsea rink had on the overall result.
The next round of the Atherley Trophy will be played on Saturday 12th January against Nottinghamshire.
