Presentation Night- 2025

The Bowls Committee AGM on 13th April 2025, was followed by the club Presentation Evening. The Chairman’s Report recognised the external successes of teams and club members:

Yorkshire Ladies League – Hornsea Ladies won Division 2

Men’s Over 60’s Championship won by Nick Cleveley

Mens vs Ladies Cup Match  …. The Ladies Triumph

The ladies took an early lead and never looked like being caught this year. As always, the game was played in good spirits and the gents took solace in the delicious bring and share buffet afterwards.

Margaret Ginnelly received the trophy on behalf of the ladies from Club Captain Val Dobbins. The prize for the top rink went to Jenny Marshall, Caroline McMahon and Helen Wright. Well done all, and the Gents look forward to the rematch next year!!

CHARLES WARD CHRISTMAS DRAWN PAIRS

For many of our members, the best way to work off some of the Christmas excesses is to play bowls and there was plenty of chance of that on 27^th December when Hornsea Bowls Center hosted the Charles Ward Christmas Pairs competition. After a draw for partners, each partnership had four games in a round robin format. The day was well attended with some magnificent bowls being played but at the end of the day the winners were decided on points.

Kate Baxter and David Dixon triumphed with 8pts and a shot difference of +33, winning £75 each and the competition trophies. Second, winning £50 each, were Mike Ginnelly and David Lee with 8pts and a shot difference of +18 while Lis Watson and James Baxter took came third with 6pts and a shot difference of +30.

Before the trophies were presented those attending also took part in a “Spider” (closest to the bottle) competition, won by new member Garry Jordan and a “Corner to Corner” last man standing game that was won by Dave Lee.

The trophies were presented by Margaret Ginnelly and Graham Watson thanked her for all her hard work during the day. He also thanked Charles Ward Homes for sponsoring the event, Marie for cooking the fabulous bacon sandwiches and anybody else who helped on the day.

The 2024 Presentation Evening – Sat 20th April 2024

Presentation Night was held in April at the end of the season rather than the following autumn and this year the evening included a delicious Pie and Pea Supper (thanks to Sandra for cooking and serving).

The evening started with a celebration of the various external triumphs of various club members as follows:

Yorkshire Over 55’s League – Hornsea Seagulls came 2nd in Div 1

Yorkshire League – Hornsea “A” won Division 1 and also won the

North Eastern Ladies League – Hornsea Ladies won Division 2

Yorkshire Champion of Champions

Mens Triples runners up were Simon Wright, Craig Stansfield & Pete Oliver

Men’s Singles winner – Paul Footitt

EIBA National Championships

Inter County Men’s Over 60’s – Yorkshire were runners up with the following playing at the finals – Nick Cleveley, Paul Footitt, Cliff Holmes, Dave Tooley & Mike Watson (Jnr)

Mens Fours (last 16) – Mark Goodfellow, Carl Stoakes, Matthew Bell and Jack Bird

Ladies Two Ball Singles – Katy Baxter reached the Semi Finals
