Congratulations to the HIBC National competitions teams who have made an excellent start to their 2018/19 campaign. Since the original report three more games have been played as highlighted in red
Denny Cup – Men’s competition played as four rinks of four players
The men had a storming day against Harrogate on 17th November winning by a comfortable 30 shots. The fourth round draw will be played against South Shields on 8th December at a venue that has yet to be decided.
Yetton Cup – Ladies’ competition played as four rinks of four players
Unfortunately the ladies were not as successful on Saturday. Once again the four lady rink of Doreen Padgett, Val Furniss, Katy Baxter and Dani Martinson had a solid 10 point win over a very strong York foursome but other rinks were unable to capitalise on this lead and the team lost by four shots overall. So close ….
Egham Cup – Mixed competition played as four rinks of four players (2 men and two ladies on each rink)
The Egham campaign started on 14th October with a preliminary round against Leeds where the team had a comfortable 28 point win (90 – 62 points). Two weeks later Hornsea played York in a tight battle winning by just nine points (79-70). This took the team Remembrance Sunday draw against Harrogate where all four rinks triumphed in a convincing 106 – 60 win. The team play their next match on 25th November against South Shields.
Top Club – Mixed competition of 11 players played as a ladies two ball singles, a men’s two ball singles, plus a pairs, a triples and a fours competition with 2 points available for each singles match and four for the other games (16 points in total)
Sunday 18th saw Hornsea play a strong Lincoln team at home. Once again Dani Martinson started the campaign with a solid ladies singles winover a former England Ladies Team Captain though Dave Robson found the opposition a bit too hot on the day in his singles game. Pairs campaigners Holly Baxter and Cliff Holmes had another impressive game a form a strong lead over their opponents. Triples team Katy and James Baxter and Carl Stoakes had a see saw game but were pulling back when the Lincoln team conceded after 16 ends. At this point the fours rink of Lydia Cutmore, Lis Watson, Mark Goodfellow & Dave Tooley had a 10 point lead. The next Top Team tie will be against Spalding on Sunday 16th December and is likely to be played at Scunthorpe or Louth bowls club (to be confirmed).
Spectators are welcome to all games and to watch the Nationals games for individuals as advertised on the board in the club hallway.
