Top Club Update –
Hornsea played a valiant game on Sunday 6th January against Barwell Indoor Bowls club but after some close games we were just beaten.
A team change saw team captain Katy Baxter playing the ladies two ball singles, where she gave the team a cracking start with a 21-7 win. Ed Wright fought a long and tight battle in his two ball game only just losing in the last two ends at 19-21.
The pairs, triples and fours all had tight games against a very skilled Barwell team that included Commonwealth medallist Jamie-Lea Winch in the triples team and World Bowls 12th ranking player Les Gillet skipping the fours. Each rink just lost but not for the want of trying. We wish Barwell the best of luck in the rest of the competition.
Many thanks to all who drove down to South Forest to support the Hornsea team and to all who supported us from home. The bar has been set high for next year’s competition!
This was a massive win for the team against a club with a host of former and current England players. The next round will be on the 6th January when we play Barwell at a venue mid-way between us. More details will be announced when known and supporters are very welcome for the game.
Individual National Games
A number of our members are still involved in various National competitions as singles, pairs, triples or fours. Danielle Martinson, Katy Baxter, Holly Baxter and Lydia Cutmore are still in a number of the Ladies competitions including individual, pairs, triples, fours and 2 ball singles. Angela Cleveley and Lis Watson are still in the Ladies Pairs, whilst on the men’s side Simon Wright and Paul Footitt are in the last four of the County stage in the men’s pairs. One or two competitions with Hornsea entrants have yet to start.
Any games being hosted at our club are listed on the chalk board in the reception area and supporters are more than welcome to watch these games. Good luck to all involved.
