About the Club
Hornsea and District Indoor Bowls Club (known as Hornsea IBC) is one of the top sports clubs in Yorkshire. The refurbished bowls hall offers an international standard playing surface while the light and airy club room boasts a well stocked bar with meals and snacks served throughout the day. The club hosts numerous bowls and community events and functions. Opened in 1998, the club welcomes members old and new for bowls (league and social), dancing, bridge, functions, dining, music & social nights and much more.
We have a team of staff ready to make you feel welcome lead by club manager Chris Swinden. In the office you will find Tracy and Rose sorting out your bowls matches, function bookings and all the things that “just happen”. In the bar and servery area you will find Carol and Linda (and sometimes the office team ladies) providing teas, coffees, sandwiches, bar drinks & snacks and light meals through the week with our famous Sunday carvery to end the week. The club is proud of its reputation for good value quality Sunday lunches, buffets, wedding breakfasts and bar meals which are provided by Sophie and manager Chris. We also have Lydia, Harry, Hannah and Mike helping at functions and weekends.
Hornsea IBC is fortunate to have some excellent coaches at the club lead by Yorkshire County Coach Ian Paddy who has recently been involved in producing a full training scheme to develop the skills of the sport’s own coaches. Any individual or club interested in this course can contact Ian through the club on 01964 537776.
In addition we have several other coaches, all trained by Ian but who have a range of experience. All coaches are volunteers and run regular coaching sessions each week usually at 9am though evening sessions are sometimes arranged. Please call the club to check days/dates and to book your place.
The Bowls Committee co-ordinate the leagues, competitions, friendly matches and all other bowling related matters. They consider proposals for rule changes and handle any disputes on bowling matters. Current committee members are: Jim Whitchurch (Men’s Captain), Sylvia Charter (Ladies’ Captain), Sylvia Dunn (Club Captain), Steve Stoakes (Competitions Secretary), Les Watts (League Secretary), Dianne Gabriel (Minues Secretary), Bridget Lee and Margaret Ginnelly (league representatives).
