Draws for the Club Championships will be posted on the competitions board on Monday 27th November with first matches in some competitions due to be played by 31st December 2017. The finals weekend will be held on 8th and 9th April 2018 (though matches can be held in the week previous if anyone is unavailable that weekend due to holidays/prior engagements).
Club championships are open to all Full, Rollabowl, Student or Junior members and are played annually in a knockout format.
Rules of Play
Full rules will be posted with the draw lists and incllude adoption of the re-spotting rule in all competitions whenever the jack leaves the rink sideways.
The first named player in a draw is the challenger and it is up to them to contact their opponent in the due timescale to offer a range of potential dates for the match – please check with reception staff to obtain rink availability. The challenger books the rink, and for singles matches only, arranges for a scorer to assist. When booking rinks, please let the office know exactly which competition is being played. Match cards will be available on the day and will be handed over once all due rink fees have been paid. Signed match cards must be handed to the office and the winner updates the draw sheet. If a player concedes a game, then they must advise the office themselves – games cannot be claimed as conceded games until agreed by the Competitions Secretary.
In addition to the Rabbits Pairs competition for pairs who have been playing indoors for less than three years, there is now a singles competition for anyone who has never won a club championship. Traditionally the Remembrance Trophy has been played as a Charity competition for all comers but entries have dropped in recent years, hence it has been suggested that this competition be only open to those who have never won a singles championship indoors so making it a competition suitable for all maiden bowlers. It’s for Charity so why not give it a go!
How to Enter
Entries will only be accepted on official entry forms which are available from reception and cost £1 per player per competition. Only the lead name need complete an entry form for pairs, triples and fours competitions but the form must be accompanied by the entry fee for all players plus the rink fees for the first round. Rinks fees for subsequent rounds are paid when the rinks are booked for those rounds.
Members then also list their names on the entry forms on the leagues board in the Bowls Arena. Entries on the lists will only be accepted if a completed matching entry form is submitted to the office before the advertised closing date – see board for key dates.
