The club AGM was held on Tuesday 7th November with a reasonable turnout. After taking apologies, members stood for a minute’s silence in respect of former members who have passed away this year. Jim Whitchurch presented the directors report and the external reporting accountant presented the accounts which showed a small but satisfactory surplus for the year.
Three directors had come to the end of their two year appointmentwith only one, Jim Whitchurch, was standing for re-election. Jim was duly re-elected and thanked Stuart Burn (who resigned earlier in the year), Dudley Horner and Neil Gabriel for their time and contribution to the running of the club. Mr John Curtis was then nominated and appointed to the board. Mrs Elisabeth Watson has another year to run on her two year appointment. The club would prefer to have either a fourth board member or a minutes secretary to assist at meetings and anyone interested is invited to speak to any director.
Two proposals were then put to the AGM for discussion, namely
- To update the Articles of Association (constitution) of the company to bring the club rules up to date with rules expected in a Community Interest type company
- Allow the clubb to apply for Community Amateur Sports Club status from HM Revenue and Customs. This is a tx status which officially recognises the club as being there for community benefit as opposed to private benefit and provides certain tax benefits to such clubs.
After discussion both proposals were accepted by a show of hands. The meeting then closed.
An Open Forum session then followed with one or two points taken forward for consideration. Any further suggestions can be left in the suggestions box next to reception for consideration by the directors or theBowls Committee for bowling and league matters.
The Bowls Committee are seeking members to take on a couple of new roles, being the
- Nationals Co-ordinator to co-ordinate entries and report in results of National games and
- League Co-ordinator – have an overview of leagues, days and times played, encourage participation and recommend changes to leagues to improve availability and uptake
Minutes of the meeting are posted on the Club Notice Board in the bowls hall.
